Today was the first ever tournament on the Eagle Tour. Our venue was the fantastic Stapleford Park, near Melton Mowbray. We were welcomed and looked after by the friendly and helpful staff and the course was in great condition.
Tim Newham of Mapperley Golf Club had the honour of hitting they first ever shot on our tour and was joined by Erewash Valley’s Darren Bartlett in the first group.
After a day when the wind strength gradually increased resulting in very difficult conditions we ended with joint winners. Alastair Kinnaird of Cosby GC, in his debut event as a professional, was the early clubhouse leader and it looked as though he might clinch the title outright until Simon Lilly of Wellingborough GC matched his score of level par 73.
Matthew Cort of Rothley Park GC held third place on his own after a two over par 75.
The first two eagles on the tour were made by Jon Gidney at the 2nd hole and Levi Desmond at the 4th. Only two more needed to win a Shooter Lite and phone case from Rokform UK.
Congratulations to the prize winners today and a massive thank you to all the players and the venue for making today a great event.
